We have some vintage Englehard Canada Bars. They have the flat back with no raised border. They all contain 5 digit serial numbers lower than 100 000.
The A Types have the "1 TROY OUNCE" markings lower to the "Fine Silver" box, while the B Types have these markings raised and centered between the box and logo.
These Type B's have the original maple leaf logo matching the Type A logo, and it's unclear how many Type B's contain the original or redesigned logos.
Engelhard gold, silver, and platinum bullion is legendary, even though the company has not manufactured precious metals since 2006, when it was purchased by the German chemicals company BASF. The Engelhard Company was founded in 1903 as American Platinum Works in New Jersey. They quickly became one of the world's most well-known producers and fabricators of platinum, gold, and silver bullion. Eventually, they expanded into chemicals and even created the first catalytic converters. Despite no longer being in the precious metals industry, Engelhard's bullion is collected and traded in high volumes by investors worldwide today.
